My 10 facts about China
April 9, 2011 — Imm Waiting For A Group..!
Hey guys!!China is an interesting place. Its empire survived for 4,000 years!!Back 4,000 years ago,China was 2/3 bigger than the U.S.!The Qin were determined to unite and rule al of China. The mastered horsemanship and took over in war.One of the rulers,Li Bing , created a water channel for irrigation straight THROUGH a MOUNTAIN!!!The plentiful of water borought a huge population. They started the Great Wall of China to protect themselves from invaders/threats.Many people had to work through the wall during freezing, stubborn winters and blazing hot summers. If you died while working(either of thirst or hunger or plain desperateness/weakness)you would be used IN the cement for the wall!!The population grew to 15,000,000 people through out the years and still goes on today.
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins Genre:Fantasy/Science Fictiony
April 4, 2011 — The Favorite Things (:
I finished this book in 4 days and it’s THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!I just couldn’t put it down at all,I’ve NEVERread anything so amazing!!The setting is sometime in the future where the population is split into 12 districts. The Capitol is were the president and most important people live.In the Capitol linger the Gamemakers, the people who are in charge of the HungerGames. The “games” are a fight to the death on live t.v.They take place each year, with every district involved. They put their names in the bowl once when 12,twice at 13 and so on.Katniss(a main character)lives in district 12,one of the lower class districts. On the day of the Reaping(when they gather for 1 girl and boy to be picked from each district)Katniss refuses to let younger(and only)sister go into the Games and takes her place. She and a boy named Peeta are picked. Each tribute(people who were picked)are interviewed on t.v,then taken to the dreadful arena where they will fight to the death in heat, cold, hunger, desperateness and thirst. And the others out to make you sure you don’t see tomorrow’s daylight.MyFaVoRiTepart is when Peeta confesses his love for Katniss in his interview. That just added so much suspense(cuz there could only be 1winner)and made me just…..well,I can’t really explain the feeling.(Just a feeling a girl like me gets I guess☺).Although Katniss had no feelings for Peeta whatsoever. My favorite quote is when Katniss says,”Shut up and eat your pears.”It tells you she wants to take her mind off the subject.I REALLYREALLYREALLY(and so on!!☻)recommend this book to EVERYONE!You get so many mixed feelings through out the book and so many things going!Towards the end i could actually hear and feel my heart beat!!☺☻Thnx 2 everyone who read all of this!!
Ancient Athenes of Greece
March 7, 2011 — Imm Waiting For A Group..!
Athens,Greece……..is an awesome city!Athens invited people from other parts of a Greece to come live there. They had many ideas and meetings with each other. It was a city-state of Greece. After the victory of the Persian War,they were so happy!Their ruler invited writers, scientists, builders, and artists to make the city beautiful. That is why there was a Golden Age.The Parthenon(the building on the hill)was built to honor Athena their goddess of wisdom. You would feel the sun blazing down on you in the summer here. The land would feel dry and rough at this time too.But in other seasons like spring and fall, there would be lucious green leaves and bushes everywhere along with colorful colors. The grass would gently prickle your feet and some trees would tower over you.You would probably be in a walking distance from the water with a cool breeze gently hitting your face. The luscious green grass would sway this way and that.Athens was truly amazing. It was(or is)full of wonders and some mystery.:D

What I Learned at The Museum
February 19, 2011 — Imm Waiting For A Group..!
Hey guys,I went to the museum on Thursday with my class and learned a lot!Have you ever heard of a person named William O. Douglas?I’ve never heard of him until we went to the museum. He was a supreme court judge.Supreme court judges were picked by the president! He was born in Minnesota and moved to Yakima when he was young. He went to Yakima High School, now A.C Davis High School, and graduated from Columbia University in 1925.He was a lawyer at first and then went onto becoming a judge. He stayed a supreme court judge for 36 years, the longest time anyone has ever stayed on the job.He died in 1980 and was remembered for his understanding, fairness, and his wanting to help the environment around him.
I also learned about the Oregon Trail. Most left on the Oregon trail because they wanted to start a better life.It was a six month walk.WALKING FOR 6 MONTHS!The would usually walk 8 hours a day. They had a wagon to carry their things in.Of course, they wouldn’t be able to pull it by themselves,so they had two oxen pull. Why oxen?Because they were strong, they walked slow(then you could keep up with them),and if you needed food, the were edible.Whenthey came to the mountains, they took out all the things that they didn’t need onto the side of the trail so the oxen would be able to pull up the wagon. They would never come back for the items they left. One out of every ten people died during the trip.
Hope you guys learned a lot!!-Daisy:)
Ancient Greece
February 14, 2011 — Imm Waiting For A Group..!
Hey guys,we had a unit about Ancient Greece in Social Studies and it was so fun learning!!:)Some things that I’ll remember from this unit are The Persian War and The Golden Age.The Persian was made up of 3 wars/battles named The Battle of Marathon,The Battle of Thermopylae, and The Great Sea Battle. These battles/wars were all fought between the Persians and Greeks. The Greeks won each of these battles.Because the Athenians were so proud of their victory, they turned their pride into an achievement and called it The Golden Age.Pericles(the Athenian leader) led them during much of this time and invited architects, artists and scientists to make the city-state The School of Greece.Athens was very beautiful at this time. Then Sparta(who helped a lot with the victory of Greece)wanted to weaken Athens and Athens wanted to become stronger than Sparta.A war kept going for 27 years! The war ended when Sparta attacked in Athens and the crowding of people spread a plague in the city, killing 1/4 of Pericles’ army and even Pericles himself.Athens surrendered in 404 B.C.ending the Golden Age.Pretty weird the way it ended but whatever.;):P
A Teacher to Remember
January 31, 2011 — Imm Waiting For A Group..!
A teacher that I will always remember is my fourth grade teacher Ms.E.SShe taught me a lot, more than any other teacher has.She had straight, brown hair and would wear it in a bun or a ponytail during hot weather. She taught me how to do a bun that year.I’m not sure how old she is,but she looks young. She was really kind and understanding. If you lost your homework, she would understand your situation and talk to you in a kind way.She never yelled(not that I remember of) even though our class was the LOUDEST class she has ever taught.I would never get bored in her class,no matter what we did.She always tried to see your side of the situation before making a decision,I liked that about her.Once when I was in the middle of a “fight” between two girls,I knew a lot of things about them that she didn’t know yet. She’d talk to me kindly and ask me what really happened.I’d tell her during recess so no one would hear us and before she’d come to a decision she’d tell me,”I won’t tell anyone who told me what you said,I promise.”then she’d smile.I always liked that about her. She’d always try to make things fun in our class. She’d tell us jokes ,or funny things that her nephews did, during class to get us in a good mood. When it was winter, she decided to make hot chocolate for us and it was REALLY good!:)She made up games to help up learn reading and math and she encouraged us to learn them well. She’d give us prizes if we won a game and that would encourage others to study for next time.I liked her attitude every day because if she was sick during the day she’d still be happy.I’ve never seen her get mad at anyone.I liked how she liked you for who you are.Two things I’ll always remember from her 1:her laugh and 2:her smile

Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls Genre:Sad/Realistic
January 24, 2011 — Imm Waiting For A Group..!
Hey guys!I’m reading this book right now and it’s pretty good!!Right now I’m on page 48.So far it’s about a boy named 10year old boynamed Billy who wanted 2 hunting hounds.Everyone his age already had at least 1 hunting dog.He asked his dad and his dad told Billy they were to hard to earn at a time like this.Billy’s wanting for dogs grew and grew. Now he even dreamt about dogs. One day he went wandering around a campsite that was just abandooned by a couple of fisherman.Billy usually found something interesting left behind. This time he found a magazine with an ad for 2 hound pups for sale.He saw they were $50.He started to wotk alot.He asked his grandfather if he could order the pups when he earned enough money. His grandpa said sure. Some of his jobs were picking berries, minnows and animal hides. He earned $50 in 2 hard working years.I like that the author compares things in the story because it helps me imagine the story better.A quote that I think is memorable is when Billy said,”I worked like a beaver.”because it compares how he worked and tells me how he felt.I think you guys should read the book even if you’ve seen the movie because the book gives so much MORE Detail!!:)
